Steinhauer community gets its name from a Canadian clergyman and Ojibway missionary, Henry Bird Steinhauer, who came to Alberta in 1840 and settled there, acting as an interpreter. After being ordained as a minister in 1858, he continued his missionary and religious work for the rest of his life.
