Development of the Miller community began after Edmonton city adopted the Casselman-Heights District Outline Plan in 1972 to develop the overall area. The neighbourhood is named after a Hungarian origin lawyer, community volunteer and politician Abe William Miller who immigrated to Canada in 1899. Miller practiced law for four decades after he moved to the City of Edmonton in 1914. While serving as the City Council’s member for six years, he was also a member of legislature.
