The People and The Real Estate in Hudson

When people think about settling in Canada’s Edmonton, they should be prepared to find a bank of real estate listings. If you are looking for a tranquil but easily accessible community to live with your family, perhaps you consider an investment in Hudson real estate.

Historically, the north-west part of Edmonton has been witnessing tremendous development in residential projects. It won’t be wrong to say that the Hudson neighborhood flaunts an appealing newer character while thriving in Edmonton's one of the most historic districts.

Following the naming pattern of the Palisades area, the names of all neighborhoods are derived from famous forts located in the region. Hudson neighborhood’s name comes from the Hudson House and Hudson’s Bay Company post, both of which are located about forty kilometers from present-day Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Before any development took place, the region was the address of Edmonton International Speedway, which is a well-known driving range and drive-in theatre. Also known as Speedway Park, this facility measures about 251 acres and featured a quarter-mile dragstrip and a quarter-mile short oval.

The New Community of Hudson

The Hudson neighborhood is defined as Neighborhood 5 in The Palisades Area Structure Plan in north Edmonton. On its east, the neighborhood is bounded by the commercial area facing 127 Street, Cumberland Road on its north, and 140 Street and an industrial area on its west. The southern edge of the neighborhood is bounded by the commercial development facing 137 Avenue, while the Cumberland community borders its northwest corner.

The use of land in the surrounding areas of the Hudson neighborhood is diverse. To the west, the landscape is more industrial, while the east and south look more commercial. Most of the residential land use is evident only in the northern fringes of the neighborhood. The development plan for the neighborhood intended to integrate residential lands of Hudson and Cumberland communities in the north and buffer the commercial and industrial establishments to the west and south.

The main connector road to the neighborhood is Hudson Road. The road connects the neighborhood directly to Cumberland Road NW, through which residents can access the convenient facilities of the community. Pedestrian pathways and a rainwater management pond in the northeast part of the neighborhood caters to people’s need for open spaces.

The community also enjoys easy access to employment and commercial centers located in the vicinity of residential areas. The St. Albert Trail, Yellowhead Trail, and Anthony Henday Drive are a few roads that provide easy connectivity with the rest of the city. Sears Home Store, Safeway, Lucky Supermarket and Superstore are few convenience stores where you can shop for your daily requirements.

Hilwie Hamdon School, Elizabeth Finch Elementary Junior High School, and Ross Sheppard High School are public schools catering to the educational needs of the kids residing in the community.École St. Angela Elementary School, Sir John Thompson Junior High School, andArchbishop O’Leary High School are few schools operated by the Catholic board.

As per the Hudson Neighborhood Structure Plan, which was consolidated in 2014, a Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment was conducted. Since Hudson has predominantly been agricultural land, the potential for environmental contamination is minimal. At the same time, it’s interesting to note that no facilities for underground fuel storage were located on the lands of Hudson.
