The People and The Real Estate in Haddow

The relatively newer, high-end community of Haddow is located in Edmonton's southwest quadrant. The upscale neighbourhood features stylish homes and enjoys an excellent location between Anthony Henday Drive, Terwillegar Drive, and Whitemud Drive.       With easy access to downtown and international airport, Haddow real estate is a popular destination for home seekers.

The triangle-shaped community of Haddow is flanked by Anthony Henday Drive on the south-western border and by Terwillegar Drive to the southeast. An undeveloped land beyond 29 Avenue flanks the northern border of Haddow.

The New Community of Haddow

The Council approved the Haddow real estate plan in 1993 and construction began only in the late 1990s. Before being taken up for residential development, the land was used for agriculture. The first of the buildings were built in the late 1990s, but a majority of Haddow homes for sale were constructed in 2000 onwards. Construction went on from 1996 to 2014 although most of the construction was completed by 2007.

The community of Haddow gets its name from the Edmonton city engineer by the name Albert Walker “Bert” Haddow, who served for 40 years as the city’s engineer. Originally from Ontario, Haddow relocated in 1910 to Edmonton and was employed in the engineering department. In 1919, he earned the designation of head city engineer. Haddow was instrumental in the construction of roadways, bridges, and underpasses. He is renowned for his supervision of the construction of the city airport. The engineer is also highly acclaimed for the Riverside golf course development.

A small shopping centre is located at the northeast corner that features pharmacy, convenience store, and medical services companies. The community of Haddow is served by St Thomas More Catholic Church.

While Edmonton International Airport can be reached within 20 minutes, it takes just fifteen minutes to reach the University of Alberta. A host of amenities including healthcare, schools, shopping, and recreation make Haddow highly attractive for home seekers. Most amenities can be found 23 Avenue and Rabbit Hill Road as well as Riverbend Square.

Some of the schools in the neighbourhood include Brookside Elementary School, Lilian Osborne High School, Riverbend Junior High School, and Archbishop Joseph MacNeil School.
