Anyone looking for a home in Edmonton should not miss Greenfield. Greenfield is a vibrant community and a well-established suburb of Edmonton. Greenfield boasts a very active community league which provides several activities to the residents. The residents are very friendly and actively participate in the events. This promotes bonding between them. The neighbourhood is very welcoming, with a cohesive and friendly feel to the residents.

Greenfield residents can enjoy the extensive bike and walking trails in Whitemud Park to the west. Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the trails. The New Community of Greenfield

Greenfield is located at southwest Edmonton. The Royal Gardens is to the north of Greenfield, Duggan to the east, Sweet Grass to the south and Westbooks estates to the east. The Greenfield neighbourhood is bounded by major arterial roads, the 111 Street on the east, 119 Street on the west, 40 Avenue on the north and the south by 34 Avenue.

The more-than-wide curvilinear streets of Greenfield make it a safe place to drive. Residents have ease of access to transit services. They are just a short drive away from the new Light Rail Transit stations at Southgate and Century Park from 111 Street. The LRT provides easy public transit access to downtown and northeast Edmonton on the Capital Line. The residents take advantage of the proximity to Whitemud Drive freeway to the north that crosses the city from the east and west. Greenfield residents also enjoy the good bus service in the neighbourhood that is maintained by the Edmonton Transit System. The city of Edmonton has also provided extensive walking and cycling paths in Greenfield. 

There are three major churches namely Greenfield Community Church, Mosaic House Church and Presbyterian Church Dayspring. Greenfield is home to three excellent schools- Greenfield Elementary School, Vernon Barford Junior High School and St. Stanislaus.

Vernon Barford Junior High School offers several options for its students from French and Spanish languages to fashion studies, food studies, culture, instrumental music, art, drama, construction and career explorations. Greenfield Elementary School is a bilingual public school offering English and French Immersion. Their mission is to be a school of excellence that ensures high levels of learning. St. Stanislaus is a Catholic French immersion elementary school. There are several other schools outside Greenfield.

Shepherd’s Care Greenfield at 114 Street is the only health care service within the neighbourhood. It is an affordable supportive living facility for about 30 people. Other health services are at Southgate Centre, and the nearest hospital is at the University of Alberta.

Greenfield is a residential neighbourhood located in southwest Edmonton, Alberta. The neighbourhood was named after Herbert Greenfield, the Premier of Alberta from 1921 to 1925. While the official name is Greenfield, residents like to call it Petrolia. 

After World War II, Edmonton experienced significant growth. Veterans returned to their lives and started families after the war, and several major oilfields surrounding the Edmonton city were discovered. This led to a tremendous increase in the city’s population. As a result, the demand for housing units increased dramatically.

Greenfield’s single-detached houses with large lots spiked the interest of people. People were attracted to Greenfield’s subdivisions that had large and relatively homogeneous lands arranged in crescents and cul-de-sacs. Newer styles of residences, schools and recreational facilities were appealing to many.

The city of Edmonton is just a 15-minute drive by car or bus from Greenfield. It is bounded on the north by a collector road and on the remaining three sides by major roadways. Most of the residential construction in the neighbourhood occurred between 1960 and 1980. Single-detached houses are the major structure type, which accounts for 92% of the residences, and are mostly owner-occupied. The above-average size residences face the quiet curvilinear streets. There are a few condos and town-homes available in the neighbourhood, which are mostly rented.

There are several schools and recreational sites in Greenfield that are centrally located. In addition, there is also a shopping plaza in the neighbourhood. There are also retail outlets and service businesses at the nearby Southgate shopping centre. Greenfield is also within a close distance to many amenities. It has great green spaces within the neighbourhood as well as surrounding the neighbourhood.

Things to do in Greenfield

Greenfield is a family-friendly community. The community league is active and provides a lot of activities for the residents to participate in. Most of the residents actively participate in the events, making Greenfield a friendly neighbourhood. Anyone entering Greenfield for the first time can feel the friendly atmosphere in the community.

Greenfield is close to the Snow Valley Ski Club, Whitemud Park and Ravine Trail System and Rainbow Valley Campground. The city of Edmonton has provided extensive bike and walking trails in Whitemud Park which the residents can take advantage of. The residents of Greenfield need not go further to enjoy a good skiing trip. The Snow Valley Ski Club provides ski as a recreational activity. The Derrick Golf and Winter Club is a key attraction of the area. It is located adjacent to Greenfield. Residents can enjoy the amenities provided by the club.

Greenfield is home to three parks which includes J.A. Werner Park, W.E Werner Park and a much larger and attractive, Greenfield Park. Greenfield also features the Petrolia Mall which is a convenient spot for shoppers.

Music lovers cannot miss the Edmonton Academy of Music that is located on the neighbourhood's north-west perimeter. The area also features Circle K, Soho Hair and Roma Pizza & Donair which the residents can take advantage of.
