At the heart of the community lies the Duggan Elementary and this has characterized Duggan as a great location for families with school going children. Access to shopping and parks makes this a good place to set up home at.

The community presents a curvilinear street plan predominantly and you will find that the residential streets are all positioned around the school in the middle as well as a park site and common commercial area. The major residential land use is along the arterial roadways here and also near the school and park locations.

Your New Duggan Home in Edmonton

The neighbourhood takes its name from J.J. Duggan, who was one of the early settlers in the Edmonton area. Duggan also went on to become mayor of Strathcona for two distinct time periods. Some area that is located in the south side of the city’s original boundaries belonged to him and this now forms a portion of the neighbourhood.

The major part of the development in this area took place in the 1960s although the peak activity can be traced back to the 1970s. Later on, while the buzz was subdued, development activity did not completely die cease and throughout the 1980s, it was fairly consistent though low key. However, during this phase, redevelopment took precedence. As a result of this, you will see an interesting mix of ages and styles in the structures and homes that you will find in Duggan.

Apart from Duggan Elementary that lies right in the middle of the neighbourhood, there are two other schools that parents can choose too- D.S. MacKenzie Junior High and Harry Ainlay High School. These are easily accessible and lie practically alongside Duggan’s boundaries. The Edmonton Catholic School System runs the St. Augustine Catholic Elementary School here too.
